Description
(...) Icabond Crane is a Yankee adventurous teacher with puritanical prejudices, unbridled imagination and childish behavior. He is a companion in the games of his older students, he is afraid of his own shadow and he likes to listen and tell stories about unreal beings. His fate brings him to the Sleeping Valley where "like a dream and drowsiness, the influence that permeates the atmosphere wanders". An atmosphere haunted by legends about ghosts and elves. Of course, Icabond could not remain unaffected, as the shadows that chase him find suitable ground to harvest and, finally, to project threateningly through the appearance of the Headless Horseman. The rest of the book's stories move in much the same spirit, except for "Monzoi" which is purely autobiographical. In most of them the gothic element is strong, which, however, contrasts with the humor and sarcasm of the author, which thus lightens the atmosphere and offers an enjoyable reading.
